i'll Sleep When I'm Dead: April 5th

I'll Sleep When I'm Dead @ the White House , April 5th
OPENINGnight!!!DOORS: 7PM
 $5 cover, 5$ drinks

“I.LL SLEEP WHEN I.M DEAD” is a proclamation of great living.

There’s just not enough time in a day to do all of the things we’d like to do.
By sacrificing sleep, we get those extra nocturnal hours
to experience it all and see the day til the very end.

But there’s also a flipside.

Staying awake all night can cause
disorientation,
mania,
tears,
and even mild hallucinations!

“I.LL SLEEP WHEN I’M DEAD” is a statement on being reckless.

CURATOR'S NOTES
FROM THE LORAXX

"as far as the theme goes,
i like picking things that are vague enough to allow for imagination
but are also familiar to everyone.
not having enough time to sleep,
or just not wanting to,
is definitely one of those things.

the goal for this one is to create a frantic visual environment,
to give people the feeling that they're walking into someone's sleep-deprived head -
whatever that looks like is really up to the artists involved.
 there's also video work,
i'm excited to be able to incorporate that.
despite the name, it's a very positive show
if you can only sleep when you're dead
it means you must have a pretty busy & full life.

there's 21 artists in this show
which is a lot. usually there's about 12 of us
but it's being held at the white house
& the space allows for more contributors
i've never really believed in the sanctity of white wall space
there won't be room for the typical distances between works
& they'll act together to subvert that formality
I.LL SLEEP WHEN I.M DEAD is about the chaos of all-nighters
it just makes sense that the way it's all displayed
would be a continuation of that theme.
the point of any show, i think,
should be to get people together.
the message is secondary.
individuals aren't that much without communities to inspire them
it sounds tacky but it's true.
there's so much about the artist
it's egotistical.
anyone can make art!
the belief that art is just for "other people"
is bullshit.

21 artists,

mostly local,
exhibit work in video,
painting,
illustration
and photography."
